Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, welcomed the 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Thursday. Sanusi serves as the distinguished keynote speaker for today’s ongoing Rivers State Economic and Investment Summit.
Meanwhile, former Central Bank Governor (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, is reportedly set to be reinstated as the Emir of Kano. This development follows the passage of a new law by the State House of Assembly, which abolished four emirates created alongside the Emir of Kano.
These emirates were established under a controversial law in 2019 during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Although there is no official statement regarding Sanusi’s reinstatement, sources familiar with the matter informed LEADERSHIP that Sanusi is expected to return to Kano on Friday.
The sources indicated that with the passage of the Bill, Sanusi’s reinstatement is automatic, pending the governor’s assent. The State Assembly recently passed a bill titled, ‘The Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill, 2024′, dissolving the additional emirates’ establishment.
