Pit bulldogs are increasingly being demanded to be outlawed as domestic pets in South Africa. It follows reports that a pit bull mauled to death an eight-year-old child on Saturday.
According to studies, South Africa has one of the highest rates of dog attack-related deaths per capita in the entire globe. In October, two family-owned pit dogs killed a 10-year-old boy by mauling him to death.
An internet petition to outlaw pit bulls as domestic pets in South Africa has received more than 50,000 signatures. The petition’s sponsors, the Sizwe Kupelo Foundation, claimed that the campaign for a ban was “necessitated by the attacks which seem to continue unabated.”
