The police are urging the public to disregard any invitations to partake in a planned demonstration scheduled for today, Thursday, September 21. Earlier, the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service had disclosed that an application had been submitted to the High Court to halt the three-day demonstration planned near the Jubilee House. The organizers of the intended protest asserted that they had not received any court order.
Nevertheless, the organizers are encouraging the public to assemble at the 37 bus terminal on Thursday morning before proceeding to the government headquarters.
In response, the Command clarified that the court order had been delivered to the organizers through their legal representatives, Atuguba & Associates, on Tuesday, September 19. They pointed out that this method of delivering the order had been chosen by the demonstration organizers themselves, as indicated in their notification letter to the Police dated September 4, 2023.
The police, in the interest of maintaining public order and safety, are cautioning the public against accepting invitations to participate in what they perceive as an “unlawful” demonstration.
