Mohamed Salah Hints at Staying with Liverpool After Arne Slot’s Appointment
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has indicated he plans to stay at Liverpool next season following the appointment of Arne Slot as the club’s new manager.
Last September, Liverpool turned down a £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad for the 31-year-old forward, and rumors have persisted about a potential move to Saudi Arabia. Salah, who netted 25 goals in 44 matches this season, acknowledged the need for more trophies after Liverpool’s only silverware this year was the League Cup in Jurgen Klopp’s final season.
“We know that trophies are what count, and we will do everything possible to make that happen next season,” Salah shared on X. “Our fans deserve it, and we will fight like hell.”
With one year left on his contract, Salah remains a target for the Saudi Pro League, despite Liverpool’s rejection of Al-Ittihad’s bid. Michael Emenalo, the league’s director of football, hinted that the opportunity to sign Salah is still open.
In recent years, top players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, and Riyad Mahrez have moved to Saudi Arabia, adding to the league’s allure.
Salah also took a moment to thank Klopp, who led Liverpool to major victories including the Champions League and Premier League titles. “It was great sharing all those trophies and experiences with you over the past seven years,” Salah posted. “I wish you the best of luck for the future and hope we meet again.”
Despite a public disagreement with Klopp during a recent match against West Ham, which Klopp later said was “completely resolved,” Salah seems focused on future success with Liverpool.
Liverpool finished third in the Premier League this season, nine points behind Manchester City. Salah’s 18 league goals were his lowest since he joined from Roma in 2017, but he remains optimistic about the club’s future.
