Nollywood icon Sola Sobowale shared her journey of reinvention as a caregiver in the UK on the King of Talks podcast hosted by Teju Babyface. Despite her fame as Toyin Tomato in Super Story, Sobowale decided to leave Nigeria between 2004 and 2016 to secure a better future for her children.
Starting from scratch, Sobowale pursued her career as an “elevated omo odo” in the UK. She earned qualifications and worked hard to provide for her family. Despite challenges, she prioritized her children’s future over fame.
Reflecting on her transition, Sobowale recalled encounters with disbelief from Nigerian acquaintances in the UK. She emphasized the importance of resilience and hard work in a new environment where survival requires determination.
During her time away from Nigeria, Sobowale encountered false rumors, including claims of arrest for drug peddling in Saudi Arabia. Despite facing negativity, she remains grateful for her journey and the opportunities it brought her.
