According to the official media, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud launched the SNTV Daljir channel, which “would focus on anti-Khawarij (al-Shabab) operations.”
Days before, the authorities claimed to have deactivated more than 500 accounts on social media that were promoting al-Shabab ideas.
Al-Shabab has a sophisticated media infrastructure that consists of dozens of social media profiles as well as a number of linked media sites.
The government outlawed the dissemination of “extremist ideology propaganda” that would “endanger national security” through local media on October 8.
According to the communication ministry, President Mohamud’s “all-out battle” against al-Shabab included cracking down on pro-military media.
