For their official Christmas card this year, King Charles and the Queen Consort have picked a picture shot just before Queen Elizabeth passed away. The couple’s first-holiday card after Charles was crowned king features a photograph from the Braemar Royal Highland Gathering on September 3. Sam Hussein’s photograph of Charles and Camilla shows them grinning while he was still the Prince of Wales.
Due to her deteriorating health, the Queen did not participate in the yearly ceremony.
On September 8, five days later, she passed away at the age of 96. The King is shown in the picture, which Buckingham Palace issued, wearing a tweed suit with a red, green, and beige tie. His wife is dressed in a green suit, hat with a pheasant motif, and pearl earrings.
Crowds from all over the world gathered to watch competitors compete in the caber toss, hammer throw, and tug of war. During the popular Highland Games, Charles officially opened Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park’s new structure commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
He cut a heather rope to commemorate the opening of the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Archway. Camilla and Princess Royal were presented with heather posies before the Games began by Chloe Guy, 10, and Cassie Stewart, 12, both members of the Braemar Royal Highland Society’s dancing class. Camilla appeared to put a sprig of flowers in her buttonhole, as seen in the Christmas card photograph.
