Pascal Dozie: A Visionary Who Shaped Nigeria’s Financial and Telecom Landscape
Pascal Dozie, a man whose influence helped shape modern banking and telecommunications in Nigeria, has passed away at 84.
Known for founding the now-merged Diamond Bank and for leading MTN Nigeria during its key growth years, Dozie’s impact can still be felt across boardrooms and business headlines today.
His journey began in a modest Catholic home, where he was raised by his father, Charles, a catechist. From early schooling in Imo State to earning his Economics degree at the prestigious London School of Economics, Dozie was always a step ahead.
He didn’t stop there. With additional studies in Operational Research and a Master’s in Administrative Science from City University, London, he returned home equipped not just with knowledge—but with vision.
That vision led him to build one of Nigeria’s most respected banks. And later, as chairman of MTN Nigeria, he helped steer the telecom giant into becoming a household name.
Those who knew him describe a man of principle, intellect, and quiet power. A man who saw potential in Nigeria and committed himself to unlocking it.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Chinyere, and five children who carry forward his legacy.
The family has yet to release funeral details, but tributes have already begun pouring in for a life lived with purpose and impact.
