Paul Scholes Highlights Key Decisions for Manchester United’s Future as Transfer Window Approaches
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has underscored the significance of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s co-owner, making crucial decisions regarding the future of academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho during this summer’s transfer window.
Following Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Sunday, Scholes acknowledged the need for fresh signings to strengthen the squad. However, he raised concerns over the club’s financial situation and how it might impact future acquisitions.
When asked about the club’s financial preparedness for the upcoming transfer window, Scholes shared his thoughts with Premier League Productions: “It’s important to think about where the funding for new signings will come from. Sir Jim’s recent comments shed some light on the situation. It appears that Ruben Amorim might not have significant resources to work with.”
He went on to mention, “I have a feeling the club might be looking at selling these two promising young talents, Mainoo and Garnacho, this summer. Losing Mainoo, in particular, would be disappointing, as he’s been with the club for many years.”
Ratcliffe previously acknowledged the club’s financial challenges and hinted at possible cost-cutting measures to ensure the team’s long-term stability.
Meanwhile, Manchester United icon Roy Keane shared his thoughts on the team’s performance following the draw with Manchester City. Keane pinpointed areas for improvement and raised doubts about the current strike force, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee not meeting the club’s usual high standards.
“Manchester United has the potential to be more threatening in front of goal,” Keane said on Sky Sports. “While the strikers we have right now may not be the ideal fit, there are still opportunities to score from other players across the team. Wide players and defenders can contribute to goals, and we’ve seen that in recent matches.”
It’s worth noting that Hojlund and Zirkzee have faced a challenging season, with the pair collectively netting only six goals in the Premier League so far.
