The Met Gala is known as fashion’s biggest night, with celebrities congregating at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to display lavish and often eccentric outfits centered on a theme. The theme for this year was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.
These were the top moments from the steps of the Met on Monday evening.
Rihanna makes a fashionably late grand entrance
Rihanna announced her second pregnancy in spectacular fashion during her Super Bowl halftime show. Despite her pregnancy, the star and her partner A$AP Rocky made a grand entrance.
The couple arrived late, with Rihanna wearing a billowing white Valentino gown with a large hood that she later removed. She also wore white sunglasses with long eyelashes protruding from them.
When they arrived, they appeared to be the only two stars left on the carpet, but their tardiness was hopefully excused. In a Vogue “73 Questions” interview, Wintour named one person who is permitted to arrive late for the Met Gala carpet: Rihanna.
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson seen chatting
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson were seen chatting inside the gala after dating for nine months between 2021 and 2022. Last year, the pair walked the red carpet together at the event, when Kardashian made headlines for wearing a Marilyn Monroe gown on display at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in Orlando.
The couple was photographed conversing with Usher. While the brief meeting gave fans hope for a rekindling, Kardashian made headlines with someone else before even walking the red carpet. The mother of four exited the Ritz Carlton Hotel with her 9-year-old daughter, North West, who was dressed to the nines.
Stars dress as Lagerfeld’s beloved cat Choupette
As celebrities began to walk the red carpet, one mystery guest caught everyone’s attention – because they were dressed as a large, fluffy cat. Jared Leto, known for his outrageous Met Gala costumes (such as the time he carried a severed head on the carpet in 2019), was inside the mascot-esque outfit.
Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, was known for carrying around his little white cat, Choupette, so the cat outfit is significant. According to Vanity Fair, he even stated that if it were legal, he would marry his pet.
Leto didn’t keep the audience guessing for long. The actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars member took off the cat head to reveal himself as Choupette. He quickly changed into a black suit and cape.
Leto wasn’t the only one who paid tribute to Choupette. Doja Cat is also dressed as a cat, with a cat-like prosthetic nose that transforms her face. She also wore a bedazzled Oscar de la Renta gown with cat ears on the hood.

She stayed true to her Coupette persona by meowing in response to Vogue correspondent Emma Chamberlin’s questions on the red carpet.
Lil Nas X, who was decked out in silver paint and sparkling jewels, was also seen meowing at reporters.
Stars announce pregnancies
On the red carpet, two celebrities showed off their baby bumps. Serena Williams stepped out in Gucci with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, revealing that she is pregnant with their second child.
“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” she wrote on Instagram. Ohanian and Williams have a 5-year-old daughter named Alexis Olympia Ohanian.
Williams discussed her pregnancy with LaLa Anthony on the red carpet. “I’m feeling better now, and I can breathe.” “I’m not hiding,” she declared.

Karlie Kloss, who is married to businessman and investor Joshua Kushner, Jared Kushner’s brother, also revealed her pregnancy. Levi, the couple’s son, was born in 2021.
“This is the most important night in fashion, of course,” Kloss said of revealing her pregnancy at the event to Entertainment Tonight. “I’m actually surprised I was able to keep it a secret for this long.” Kloss was dressed in a black Loewe gown.

Anna Wintour and Bill Nighy spark relationship rumors
The Met Gala’s star-studded guest list is often credited to Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, which organizes the event. This year, the usually private Wintour made headlines by walking the red carpet with actor Bill Nighy.
Despite their public outings together, a rep for Wintour told People Magazine that they are not in a relationship, but are simply great friends.
According to ET Canada, they were first seen out together in Italy in 2021, sparking romance rumors. Wintour hosted a screening of the film “Living,” in which Nighy starred, last year.
Honorable mention: The cockroach
A cockroach was also an uninvited guest on the carpet. For a few moments, the bug stole the show as cameras turned down to track it as it scurried across the carpet. The presence of a roach is not surprising to seasoned New Yorkers, but it is still unwelcome.
Only in New York.
