Saturday night at the Balmoral Event Centre in Lagos sparkled with glamour as Onyinyechi Basil, proudly representing Anambra State, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025. The 25-year-old beauty queen succeeds Chidimma Adetishina and will carry Nigeria’s flag at the upcoming Miss Universe competition.
It was a night filled with anticipation as 22 contestants showcased their poise and confidence through the swimsuit, evening gown, and question-and-answer segments. The competition narrowed down to Onyinyechi and Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, before the announcement that sent the crowd into cheers—Onyinyechi was the new queen.
Other standout moments included Fortune Kurobo of Bayelsa placing as second runner-up, Irene Ikediashi of Ogun securing third place, and Idah Eno of Akwa Ibom making the top five while also being crowned Miss Supranational Nigeria 2025.
Beyond the glitter of pageantry, Onyinyechi brings an impressive résumé. She manages operations across West Africa for a major South Korean conglomerate and has long been a strong voice for maternal healthcare advocacy in Nigeria.
Moments after receiving her crown, she spoke passionately about her mission:
“I want young girls to know they can achieve more, become more, and still hold proudly to their cultural roots.”
With her new title, Onyinyechi Basil steps onto the global stage as Miss Universe Nigeria 2025, ready to showcase Nigerian culture and push forward her vision for women’s empowerment and education worldwide.
