The royal family announced on Tuesday that King Charles III knighted Brian May, co-founder of the rock band Queen, during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace. May is an astrophysicist in addition to being a rock guitarist.
May, now Sir Brian May, was made a Knight Bachelor for his contributions to music and charity. YolanDa Brown, a saxophonist, was also honored at the ceremony on Tuesday.

At the end of 2022, the rocker was named to King Charles’ New Year Honours List. The Investiture ceremony, in which an honoree receives it in person from a member of the royal family, took place on Tuesday.
“I will do everything in my power to be worthy,” May said after being named to the list.
May’s visit to Buckingham Palace on Tuesday was not her first. During Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002, he sang “God Save the Queen” from the palace roof. In 2005, he also attended a Music Day at the palace. May was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire the same year.
