The guest list includes King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, as well as presidents and PMs.
A reception for foreign heads of state will be held at Buckingham Palace on the eve of the King’s Coronation.
Princess Beatrix, the former Dutch queen, has confirmed her attendance at the event, which is expected to be hosted by King Charles.
Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, her granddaughter and heir to the Dutch throne, will also attend.
The Royal House of the Netherlands confirmed the palace reception on Friday, May 5, which The Telegraph revealed last month, in a statement on its official website.
It stated that King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands would attend the Coronation service on May 6, but not the reception the night before.
“His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Maxima will attend the Coronation ceremony of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, 2023,” the statement said.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands and Her Royal Highness Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, will attend a reception at Buckingham Palace on May 5, the eve of the Coronation.”
Other expected attendees at the reception include British royalty as well as presidents and prime ministers from around the world.
While Joe Biden, the US president, will not be in the UK for the Coronation, his wife Jill Biden, the First Lady, will.
The Duke of Sussex, who has had a strained relationship with his father since the publication of his memoir Spare, will also attend the Coronation, but his appearance at the palace reception is unknown.
His trip is expected to be brief, with no plans to attend any other royal events other than the service over the bank holiday weekend.
Meanwhile, other kings and queens from around the world are expected to attend the evening reception, as is customary before major events such as royal weddings and funerals.
For example, on the eve of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral last September, the King hosted a reception for world heads of state, which was attended by the Queen Consort, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Princess Royal.
Emmanuel Macron, the French president, King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, and King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden were among those who attended the Buckingham Palace event last September.
According to The Telegraph, the King will host a reception for Commonwealth leaders before the evening’s events, breaking with tradition by not hosting a banquet like his late mother and grandfather.
In 1953, the late Queen entertained 750 guests at a gala Commonwealth banquet in Westminster Hall. On the eve of his own Coronation in 1937, King George VI also dined with Commonwealth leaders.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, which organized the previous two Coronation feasts, confirmed that the event in May would not be held, stating that “what was appropriate then will not necessarily be appropriate now.”
The decision, which some will see as a snub to Commonwealth representatives, was made after it was determined that the Commonwealth and its members had “changed enormously since 1953.”
