The former US president’s new book is set to publish a ‘thankful’ letter sent to him when the monarch was Prince of Wales.
According to the Telegraph, Donald Trump plans to publish a personal letter from the King without the monarch’s permission.
The letter will be published on Tuesday in a new book of personal correspondences with world leaders, public figures, and celebrities.
The letter, written in 1995 when the King was Prince of Wales, expresses gratitude to Mr. Trump for providing an honorary membership to the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
It wishes Mr. Trump success in his new private members’ club, which he opened after purchasing the mansion, and has expressed interest in visiting.
He also allegedly suggested that Mr. Trump, who was a real estate developer at the time, visit his Institute of Architecture in London.
Diana, Princess of Wales, thanked “Donald” for the flowers he sent her on her birthday in another letter sent on July 3, 1997, just weeks before her death.
“They truly are quite magnificent, and I am deeply touched that you have thought of me in this special way,” she wrote.
Former Prime Minister David Cameron responded to a letter from Mr. Trump complaining about wind turbines near his Scottish golf courses on July 23, 2013.
Mr. Cameron, in signing the letter, told Mr. Trump that he understood his strong views on wind power.
Mr. Cameron added, after explaining that Britain was committed to a “balanced energy mix” that included renewables, “I do appreciate that wind, in particular, can be contentious for some communities.”
“We have made it clear that the need for renewable energy does not automatically trump environmental protections,” he said.
Miss Universe Pageant
The book also includes a letter exchange between Mr. Trump and Vladimir Putin in 2013, announcing the “exciting news” that the Miss Universe Pageant was coming to Russia.
Mr. Trump invited Mr. Putin to be the honorary guest, saying, “I know that our Moscow pageant will be our biggest and best Miss Universe ever, and we are already overwhelmed with a very positive and extensive response from both international and Russian media.”
Mr. Trump went on to say that the Trump Organization had turned down competing countries that wanted to host the event.
Mr. Putin responded by congratulating them on their success in bringing the pageant to Moscow.
“I hope that all of the participants in this remarkable event will remember their visit to the Russian capital fondly.”
“It is unfortunate that we were unable to meet, but I hope we will be able to talk during one of your upcoming visits to Russia,” he added.
Mr. Putin extended his warmest greetings on December 15, 2016, with Mr Trump now president-elect.
Mr. Putin added, “Serious global and regional challenges, which our countries have had to face in recent years, show that relations between Russia and the US remain an important factor in ensuring the stability and security of the modern world.”
“I hope that after you take office as President of the United States of America, we will be able to take real steps to restore the framework of bilateral cooperation in various areas, as well as bring our level of collaboration on the international scene to a qualitatively new level,” he added.
Simon Cowell
There are lighter moments in the correspondence, such as a 2009 letter from Simon Cowell to Mr. Trump, which accompanied a tape with excerpts from Britain’s Got Talent.
Mr. Trump had been in talks about taking part in an American version of the show.
“I really hope it works out,” Mr. Cowell said. “I would love for you to be on it.”
Winning Team Publishing, which Mr. Trump co-founded, is the publisher of Letters to Trump.
