British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hailed King Charles’ coronation on Saturday as a celebration of the country’s history as well as a demonstration of its modern character, saying no other country could muster such a “dazzling display.”
Charles and Camilla will be crowned at London’s Westminster Abbey in a show of pomp and pageantry with 1,000-year-old roots.
Sunak described it as a “moment of extraordinary national pride.”
“No other country could put on such a dazzling display – the processions, pageantry, ceremonies, and street parties,” he declared in a statement.

“But this isn’t just a show. It represents our history, culture, and traditions with pride. A vivid demonstration of our country’s modern character. And a treasured ritual that ushers in a new era.”
Sunak stated that the ceremony at the abbey, where English and British kings have been crowned since 1066, would include representatives from all faiths for the first time.
“So let’s celebrate this weekend with pride in who we are and what we stand for,” he says. “Let us look forward with hope and optimism.” And let us create new memories so that we can tell our grandchildren about the day we came together to sing “God Save the King.”
