Eating too much sugar can be dangerous to the skin.
It’s no secret that consuming too much sugar in foods and beverages can have a number of negative consequences.
The World Health Organization recommends no more than 25 grams of sugar per day for the average adult, but we all know that due to the world we live in, this is very easy to exceed.
Although sugar is not inherently harmful, an excessive intake of sugar in our diet can harm our bodies, particularly the skin.
With that in mind, here’s a list of them:
-
Gives you a red face
Dermatologists all over the world have warned against having a “sugar face.” That cute red face you thought indicated a healthy glow is actually a sugar face caused by eating too much sugar and the negative effects it has on your skin.
-
Flares up allergies
If you are prone to allergic reactions, sugar may be the source of your occasional flare-ups. If you have allergies or eczema, you’ve probably discovered on your own that sugar triggers flare-ups. Also, if you have food allergies, be extra cautious when consuming sugar because it may aggravate your allergies.
-
Leads to breakouts
Too much sugar promotes acne by first increasing skin inflammation and then impairing the body’s white blood cells’ ability to fight infection, making acne worse than ever.
-
Increases inflammation
According to research, the moment you eat something sugary, your body produces insulin. This happens to keep your blood sugar levels stable, but when insulin is released, the body’s inflammation rises, causing the skin to turn red. If you have pre-existing conditions such as acne, eczema, or rosacea, the inflammation may be exacerbated.
