Manchester City midfielder Rodri recently shared his pick for the “Greatest of All Time” (GOAT), and it’s not the usual suspects like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. Instead, Rodri hailed his teammate Kevin De Bruyne as the GOAT during an interview at the PFA Awards on August 20.
De Bruyne, a 33-year-old Belgian midfielder, has had a remarkable career at Manchester City, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and a Champions League title. Given these achievements, it’s no wonder Rodri quickly named him as his GOAT.
In a related note, former Arsenal winger Perry Groves weighed in on Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, comparing his goal-scoring ability to that of Messi and Ronaldo. After Haaland scored his 91st goal in just 100 appearances for City during their recent 2-0 victory over Chelsea, Groves praised the Norwegian’s extraordinary record.
Groves even suggested that Haaland’s stats are on par with Messi and Ronaldo, emphasizing that the Premier League’s competitiveness makes his achievements even more impressive. “His numbers are up there with Messi and Ronaldo. And to be fair, La Liga isn’t as competitive as the Premier League,” Groves commented on Premier League All Access. “I didn’t think anyone could maintain a goal per game in the Premier League, but Haaland is proving otherwise.”
