Chelsea have officially welcomed back Portuguese forward Joao Felix, who is versatile as both a forward and an attacking midfielder. Felix, who previously spent the 2022-2023 season on loan at Chelsea, had expressed interest in staying with the club, but circumstances led him to return to Atletico Madrid and later join FC Barcelona on loan last season.
After a strained relationship with Atletico Madrid’s management, particularly with coach Diego Simeone, Felix sought a permanent move away from the club this summer.
Chelsea, active in the transfer market, seized the opportunity to bring Felix back to Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis, securing the deal for €50 million. The 6-year contract Felix signed will keep him at Chelsea until June 30, 2030, with an option for a one-year extension.
Expressing his enthusiasm about returning to Chelsea, Felix said, “I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea, and I can’t wait to get started. I’m excited about this new chapter. I loved my time here before, and I always told my friends and family… I’d love to return to the Premier League one day.”
Chelsea’s announcement of Felix’s return coincides with Atletico Madrid’s completion of Conor Gallagher’s signing on the same day, August 21.
