How We Met
By the Groom, Nnamdi
It all started with a calendar! You know, those souvenir gifts handed out at events. Adaora’s family photo was featured in one of those calendars displayed at her uncle’s office in Nigeria. My mom noticed it and, naturally, asked about Adaora’s status. After getting the right information, she made sure to grab the contact details—typical Nigerian mom persistence! As expected, she wasn’t going to let me rest until I made the call. At the time, both of us were living in the U.S. So, I took the plunge and texted her.
But Adaora didn’t respond right away—she was overwhelmed with messages and calls from family members trying to set her up with potential suitors.
Then came the moment I’ll never forget—Adaora, in that stunning red dress, slaying!
A few days later, I decided to call again. This time, Adaora didn’t pick up! She often says that our happy ending began because I left a voicemail. Something made her listen to it right away, and my tone—genuine and warm—prompted her to call me back immediately. We ended up talking for about an hour, discussing everything from our lives, careers, to the pressures our parents placed on us to settle down. After a week of chatting daily, Adaora suggested we stay friends due to the distance, which I agreed to. But after a short break, our conversations resumed just like before—every day, growing closer. By the end of the month, it was clear that we were meant to be. And as they say, the rest is history!
Joined together as one!
