The Osun State Government has refuted claims that it is coercing career officers in local governments to modify signatories to council accounts amidst the ongoing dispute between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over local government administration.
Adewale Adebayo, Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Osun, alleged that Governor Ademola Adeleke was compelling Finance Directors and Heads of Local Administration to make unauthorized changes to council account signatories.
“We have received credible reports that the Adeleke administration is summoning 30 Local Government Finance Directors and Heads of Local Administration to an undisclosed location against their will. This move appears to be linked to the power struggle over local government control,” Adebayo asserted.
In response, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, dismissed the claims as baseless.
“This is mere speculation with no factual basis. The Commissioner for Local Government has confirmed that no such directive was issued. These allegations are an attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary controversy.
“No local government account signatories have been altered. APM is simply making unfounded accusations,” Alimi clarified.
