Bimbo Akintola Gets Candid on Men, Cheating, and Nollywood’s New Face
Nollywood veteran, Bimbo Akintola, has stirred conversations with her bold take on relationships and the movie industry.
Speaking during a podcast chat with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Bimbo didn’t mince words about infidelity, saying it’s something deeply rooted in African culture. She argued that cheating is so common among men that many women need to face the reality instead of denying it.
According to her, “Most of our men cheat. Your father did, your grandfather did. Polygamy is not new to us. Some men even grew up watching their fathers take girlfriends around. If you leave one man because of cheating, you may meet the same thing with the next. Even Beyoncé stayed when Jay-Z cheated. That’s just the truth we live with.”
Beyond relationships, Bimbo also reflected on how Nollywood has evolved. She described the industry she joined years ago as one driven by passion and storytelling, not money or appearances. She recalled how actors like Joke Silva and Sola Sobowale worked tirelessly for the love of the craft, often sacrificing comfort and pay just to bring stories alive.
Today, she noted, things have shifted. Many actors, she said, are more invested in looks, luxury, and cosmetic enhancements like BBLs, rather than focusing on the work itself. While she acknowledged the changes, Bimbo reminded young actors that beauty fades, but true artistry stands the test of time.
