The Presidency has shared new details about a possible meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, expressed confidence that the two leaders would meet soon. He made this known during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday.
According to Bwala, the meeting could take place either at the White House or in Nigeria’s State House. However, he emphasized that diplomatic discussions follow strict protocol and cannot be rushed.
“In diplomacy, timing and discretion are everything. We can’t reveal details of the discussions, as every stage must be respected,” he explained.
Bwala also addressed speculations about possible U.S. sanctions on Nigeria, clarifying that any such measures would hurt ordinary citizens the most.
He said, “Sanctions affect the people directly. President Trump speaks his mind, but once he’s done, he moves on. The Nigerian government has understood his concerns and is taking steps to address them. We’ll start seeing positive outcomes soon.”
This marks the second time Bwala has mentioned a potential meeting between Tinubu and Trump since Trump’s controversial remarks about alleged religious persecution in Nigeria.
