Authorities said actor Jonathan Majors was arrested Saturday morning in New York City on suspicion of domestic violence.
The 33-year-old “Creed III” star was arrested on suspicion of strangulation, assault, and harassment, according to a statement provided to CBS News by the NYPD.
Officers were dispatched to a 911 call from an apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood at 11:14 a.m., where a “preliminary investigation determined” that Majors and a 30-year-old woman had a “domestic dispute.”
According to police, the woman, who told officers she had been assaulted, was taken to the hospital with minor head and neck injuries. She was in good health.
According to police, Majors was arrested on the spot.
Majors’ representative stated in a brief statement that the actor “has not done anything wrong. We are looking forward to clearing his name and putting this behind us.”
Majors’ criminal defense lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, said in a longer statement on Sunday that Majors is “completely innocent and provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows.” According to Chaudhry, they are “gathering and presenting evidence” to the District Attorney, which includes “video footage from the vehicle where this episode occurred, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode and, most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.”
Chaudhry went on to say that the woman in question was “going through an emotional crisis.”
Majors appears in the Army’s recently relaunched “Be All You Can Be” advertisements. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Army Enterprise Marketing Office stated that they are “deeply concerned” about the allegations surrounding Major’s arrest.
“While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty,” the statement said, “prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is completed.”
Other film and television credits for Majors include “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “Devotion,” and “Lovecraft Country,” for which he was nominated for an Emmy.
