Following opposition protests in Kenya that turned violent and killed three people last week, the African Union has called for calm and dialogue.
Following last year’s election, opposition leader Raila Odinga called for protests against the high cost of living and what he calls electoral justice.
AU Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat issued a statement urging “stakeholders to exercise calm and engage in dialogue to address any differences.”

He claimed that last year’s elections were “successful,” with the outcome confirmed by the Supreme Court.
“The Chairperson reiterates her complete solidarity with and support for the government and people of Kenya’s efforts to achieve national unity, peace, and stability in the country,” according to the statement.
Kenyan religious leaders have also called for President William Ruto and Mr. Odinga to hold unconditional talks.
