Following her victory over Rishi Sunak in the race for the Conservative Party leadership and her visit with the Queen at Balmoral, Liz Truss succeeded Boris Johnson as prime minister on September 6.
After only six weeks in office, British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on Thursday. This was the result of a terrible and quickly abandoned economic plan that caused the pound to crash and her government to fall apart.

Truss, who was officially chosen by Queen Elizabeth II on September 6, is now the prime minister with the shortest tenure in British history and will go down as one of the most disastrous.
George Canning, the previous record holder, served for 119 days in the early 19th century; Truss will serve for around 50.
She will hold the record for the shortest tenure as prime minister in contemporary British politics.
Ms. Truss said in a statement that was read out outside Downing Street: “I took office during a period of significant economic and global instability.

Businesses and families were concerned about how they would pay their bills.
We delivered on energy bills, she continued, adding that she had been elected “with a pledge to alter this.”
She acknowledged that she couldn’t fulfill the Conservative Party’s mandate under the current circumstances.

Therefore, I told His Majesty the King that I was stepping down as Conservative Party leader in a meeting.
“I spoke with Sir Graham Brady, the 1922 committee’s chairman, this morning. We’ve decided that the next week will see the conclusion of the leadership election.”
Until her replacement is picked, Ms. Truss will continue to serve as prime minister.
