When life gives you lemons, make lemonade out of them, as the saying goes.
This proverbial saying is frequently used to encourage people to make the best of difficult situations and adversity.
Yvonne Nelson, a celebrated Ghanaian actress, appears to have drawn inspiration from this saying during the early stages of her film career.
In an interview with GTV host Kafui Dey, she explained how she started her own production house after being barred from acting for a year.
Yvonne described the incident, saying she was a student at Central University College at the time, balancing her passion for acting with academic demands.
This, she explained, was quite a squabble, and she expressed her frustrations during a production in which she was not allowed to film her role despite leaving school to go on set.
“I complained about something that happened on Abdul Salam’s set. So I went to the set for two days straight and they did nothing with me.
“They did not film my scenes. And I was attending Central University at the time. Salam knew I was in school because I had quizzes, essays to write, and other things to do.
“However, I had the impression that they were ignoring me. There are so many girls in line waiting to play what you’re doing on the set that it doesn’t matter if you’re in school or not. So why are you complaining?…

“So on the third day, I told them, listen, if I come the next day and you guys don’t film, that’s it,” she explained.
Yvonne stated that she did not threaten anyone, but she was given a one-year ban following the incident.
“Salam got angry and I left, but I remember Majeed Michel was on the set and he remembers everything that happened on the day.
So I went back to school, and all I heard was that we were going to ban Yvonne Nelson. We’re not going to let her perform for a year. “That’s what happened,” she recalled.
Following this development, the actress stated that she felt the joy of others who rejoiced over her approval.
She also stated that no one was available to intervene to lessen her punishment.
“I did a lot of reflection,” Yvonne said, despite her grief. I formed a company called YN productions. “And I’m here today,” she exclaimed with delight.
“And I’m one of the few producers producing; making movies right now,” she added.
Yvonne also revealed that her ban from acting provided her with the opportunity to begin acting in Nigeria.
“So it went well. “It was a bad year that turned into a good year,” she concluded.
