Tundu Lissu, Tanzania’s opposition leader, has returned from self-imposed exile, six years after being shot multiple times during an assassination attempt. He said he was returning home because a ban on opposition political rallies was lifted earlier this month.
Mr. Lissu was greeted by cheering supporters as he waved from the open-top car transporting him from Dar es Salaam airport to a rally nearby. The defeated former presidential candidate believes Tanzania’s ruling CCM party is ready for a more open political style.
