After over 15 years of silence, Air Sierra Leone has made a grand return, resuming regular flights between Lagos and Freetown.
The airline’s relaunch was celebrated on Wednesday at Lagos airport with an inaugural flight, symbolizing a fresh chapter in strengthening trade and travel ties between Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
For this comeback, Air Sierra Leone teamed up with Nigerian airline XEJet, which is providing technical expertise and three aircraft to support the operations.
Speaking at the event, Air Sierra Leone’s General Manager, Edgard Lacle, shared his excitement about the relaunch, announcing that the airline will offer flights three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
“We’re starting small, but we’re ready to grow as demand increases,” Lacle said.
The inaugural flight carried 36 passengers, highlighting the route’s potential to boost collaboration and connectivity between the two nations. Lacle emphasized the strong cultural and economic links between Sierra Leone and Nigeria, pointing out how the new route could enhance trade and tourism opportunities.
“There’s a deep connection between our countries. Trade is key, and tourism also plays a vital role. As the market evolves, we’re ready to adapt and meet travelers’ needs,” Lacle added.
XEJet CEO Iza Emmanuel described the relaunch as the “rebirth” of Air Sierra Leone in Nigeria, calling it a milestone of hope and progress for Sierra Leone.
“After 15 years, the Sierra Leonean flag is back in the skies. This moment celebrates the strong friendship and cooperation between Sierra Leone and Nigeria,” Emmanuel said.
He expressed optimism about the future of this partnership, adding, “This event is a shared vision for growth and opportunity. We’re proud to be part of this remarkable journey.”
