Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, has revealed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is poised to sign the anti-gay bill.
He emphasized that the President has expressed readiness to sign the contentious bill once it reaches his desk.
During an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show on Friday, April 12, Aboagye reiterated his confidence that President Akufo-Addo, who has consistently opposed LGBT+ activities, will endorse the bill upon receipt.
“The president has never said he will not sign the bill. So, I believe that he will sign it when it gets to him,” Aboagye affirmed.
Encouraging Ghanaians to engage in constructive criticism of the bill, Aboagye emphasized the importance of feedback in refining legislation to better align with the country’s interests.
These statements follow Dr. Bawumia’s public denunciation of LGBT+ activities during his address to thousands of Muslims in Kumasi on Thursday, April 11, as they observed Eid prayers.
Dr. Bawumia firmly rejected LGBT+ practices, aligning his position with the teachings of Islam and the cultural and societal norms of Ghana.
