Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is aiming to make the 2024-2025 season his most impressive Premier League campaign yet, building on his strong start with Fulham. The 28-year-old has quickly become a key player for the club, currently sitting as Fulham’s joint-top scorer with five goals—matching his total from the previous season.
Iwobi credits his impressive form to the freedom and creativity provided by Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva.
“This is probably my best start to a season—I just have to keep building on it and aim to make it my best season overall. That’s the goal,” Iwobi said.
Reflecting on his early footballing inspirations, the former Arsenal star revealed his admiration for two players who had a major influence on him: his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha and the legendary Ronaldinho. Iwobi believes playing with freedom has been a key factor in his growth.
“Those two were my favorite players growing up,” Iwobi shared. “It showed me that being yourself and embracing who you are is what matters.”
Iwobi’s standout performances this season have been heavily influenced by Silva’s managerial style. The Portuguese coach has fostered an environment that encourages players to express themselves both on and off the pitch—a dynamic Iwobi finds highly motivating.
“If I make a mistake, I know I can bounce back and keep going. It’s important to have a manager who believes in you like that,” Iwobi explained. “Players perform best when they’re confident, and with Silva giving me the freedom to express myself, I feel almost unstoppable.”
Looking ahead, Iwobi is optimistic about Fulham’s ability to compete with some of the Premier League’s top teams. Following a respectable draw with Arsenal, Fulham is currently positioned 10th in the league and set to face a tough away match against Liverpool at Anfield. Iwobi is determined to secure a positive result.
“We’re going there to get a result,” he insisted. “In the Premier League, anything can happen in any game. Even though they’re at the top, we’re aiming to take something from the match.”
