Nigerian footballer Alex Iwobi has emphasized the strong sense of camaraderie within the Fulham squad, describing it as “one big brotherhood.” This supportive environment has been a key factor in what Iwobi has called his “best season” yet.
The 28-year-old midfielder has already equaled his personal best in Premier League goals, reaching five with half the season still to play. Alongside his goal-scoring contributions, Iwobi has provided three assists, firmly establishing himself as a crucial player for the team.
“We’re genuinely committed to each other,” Iwobi told BBC Sport Africa. “On the pitch, you can see that commitment, but beyond that, there’s a real brotherhood off the pitch. The atmosphere is positive, and our chemistry is strong, which is instrumental in achieving the results we want.”
Currently sitting eighth in the league, just three points behind fifth-placed Newcastle United, Fulham are riding an impressive unbeaten streak of seven matches.
Iwobi recently hosted a Christmas shopping event in Canning Town, where he grew up, showing his continued connection to the local community. He attributes much of the team’s success to Fulham manager Marco Silva, who has fostered a strong sense of unity within the squad.
“The manager has created a culture where we feel connected,” Iwobi explained. “He encourages me to express myself more on the pitch, allowing me to pursue goal-scoring opportunities. If I make an error, he reassures me to keep trying.”
With the support of both Silva and his teammates, Iwobi feels empowered to take risks during matches. “That level of confidence makes a huge difference,” he said. “It drives you to explore new possibilities on the field.”
Fulham are aiming for a higher league position, a feat they haven’t achieved since the 2011-2012 season. Iwobi hopes the squad can compete for European qualification once again.
“We have the talent to do it, and it’s been too long since I played in Europe,” he shared. “This is a goal I strive for again. We’re ready to take on any challenge and secure those crucial three points. The potential is limitless.”
