From behind bars, Ama Governor has written a stirring letter in support of the ongoing #FreeTheCitizens protest, a movement sparked by the youth of Ghana demanding her release alongside 50 others arrested during a demonstration against illegal mining, known locally as Galamsey.
The protest, which kicked off earlier today, has united the Ghanaian youth in a powerful call for justice. In her heartfelt message to the demonstrators, Ama began by saying, “Dear Comrades, when I say ‘Aluta!’ you respond ‘Cononua!’”
As a lawyer and advocate, Ama’s words carried the weight of both her personal struggle and the broader fight for justice. “Ghana has never witnessed a day like this—October 3rd, 2024—where despite attempts to divide us, the youth stand together to challenge the devastation caused by illegal mining on our land, health, and future. We demand government accountability and the release of political prisoners.”
