Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has spoken out about 2Baba’s controversial social media announcement regarding his marriage to Annie Idibia, expressing her belief that the legendary singer made a misstep by sharing such personal details online.
In an Instagram story shared on Monday, Toke emphasized that while she supports the decision to leave a marriage that no longer brings fulfillment, she felt the timing of 2Baba’s post was inappropriate. She acknowledged the private struggles happening behind closed doors but stressed that the public doesn’t have all the facts.
“Nobody is asking anyone to stay in a situation that’s not serving them anymore. By all means, leave if you must, but why bring it online at this very moment?” Toke wrote. “We know what’s going on behind closed doors. The world doesn’t know anything. It’s already been hectic with so many opinions flying around.”
She added, “A handful of people know the truth, and time will tell. Timing and empathy are everything. You can’t constantly preach love and then add to the negativity out there, especially when you know what’s really happening behind the scenes.”
Toke also pointed out the importance of standing up for what’s right, especially as a woman. She stated, “If you stay silent on this, it could affect your daughter or any female in your family one day. No one is innocent, and if you’re going to bring the media into it, knowing what you know, we will fight for her.”
Her words reflect her belief in the need for empathy and timing, calling for a more careful approach to handling personal matters publicly.
