The Oscar winner has appeared in multiple Broadway shows, including ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.’
Ariana DeBose, an Oscar winner, will host the Tony Awards again in 2023.
DeBose, who hosted the show last year, has several Broadway credits, including a leading role in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, for which she received a Tony Award nomination, and as a member of Hamilton’s original cast. The ceremony is set for June 11th at the United Palace in New York City’s Washington Heights. The show will air on CBS and be available to watch live and on-demand on Paramount+.
“I was honored to host last year and even more honored to be asked back!” So excited to celebrate this incredible season and the people who make it all possible. “Here’s to bringing some uptown flavor to the Tony Awards!” DeBose stated.
DeBose, who won an Oscar for her performance as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, also appears in the Netflix adaptation of The Prom and the Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon! Kraven the Hunter from Marvel and Sony, as well as Disney’s animated feature Wish, are among her upcoming films.

“An Award-winning actress, powerhouse vocalist, and commanding dancer, Ariana DeBose is the true definition of ‘triple-threat,'” said Heather Hitchens, President and CEO of the American Theatre Wing, and Charlotte St. Martin, President of The Broadway League. “We are thrilled to have one of Broadway’s brightest lights returning to dazzle, inspire, and illuminate this year’s Tony Awards!”
She returns to the Tony Awards following her viral BAFTA Awards rap, in which she sang, among other things, “Angela Bassett did the thing.” Since then, DeBose has embraced the criticism, recently selling merch at her concerts emblazoned with rap lyrics.
“Ariana will host, dance, and sing; we’re overjoyed she’s back,” said Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, executive producers of White Cherry Entertainment, which produces the Tony Awards alongside the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
Weiss will also direct the Tony Awards this year.
The Tony Award nomination deadline for the 2022-2023 season is April 27. The 76th Annual Tony Awards nominations will be announced on May 2.
