Wenger Backs Liverpool as Title Favorites, Arsenal Hit with FA Fine
Arsène Wenger, the legendary former Arsenal manager, has weighed in on this season’s Premier League race, calling Liverpool the “super favorites” to lift the title.
Liverpool continued their strong campaign with a 2-1 win over Wolves at Anfield, maintaining a seven-point lead over Arsenal, who also secured a crucial 2-0 victory against Leicester City.
While Wenger is hopeful for an Arsenal comeback, he acknowledges that Liverpool’s dominance makes it an uphill battle. “For Arsenal to have a real shot, Liverpool would need to drop points,” he said on beIN Sports.
“With 25 games played and just one loss, it’s hard to see them losing three times in their remaining 13 matches. Unless something drastic happens, they are in a very strong position. Arsenal will need to be flawless from here on out, and all we can do is hope for a twist in the title race,” Wenger added.
Arsenal Fined After Player Conduct Incident
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been fined £65,000 for failing to control their players during a heated moment in their match against Wolves. The incident occurred after Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Matt Doherty.
Referee Michael Oliver’s decision was backed by VAR, but Arsenal players surrounded him in protest. While the club accepted the charge, they appealed the suspension, leading to Lewis-Skelly’s three-match ban being overturned.
Following the controversy, PGMOL (the referees’ governing body) revealed that an investigation is underway regarding threats and abuse directed at Oliver and his family on social media.
With the title race heating up and tensions running high, all eyes are on the remaining fixtures to see if Arsenal can close the gap—or if Liverpool will cruise to another league triumph.
