Mr. Ernest Norgbey, MP for Ashaiman, has praised the Ghana Police Service for conducting prompt investigations and apprehending the alleged killers of late Trooper Imoro Sherrif.
He described the Police as professional and diligent in their operations.
Mr. Nogbey stated in a press release issued on Monday, March 13, that the Police have demonstrated that they have the necessary competence to investigate all crimes in the country.
“I commend the Ghana Police Service for their calm, but swift and professional conduct thus far in meticulously investigating the circumstances surrounding Trooper Imoro’s death.
“Through their efforts thus far, the Ghana Police have assured the good people of Ashaiman and the entire population of Ghana that the Ghana Police Service, led by the IGP COP George Akuffo Dampare, have the capacity and competence to investigate all horrifying crimes, including the kind that took Trooper Imoro to an early grave.
“The good people of Ghana and Ashaiman will always remember the noble services of the men and women of the Ghana Police Service to Ashaiman when it counted the most,” excerpts from his statement said.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker has charged the Attorney-General with ensuring that the accused are prosecuted as soon as possible.
“I pray that the Attorney-Department General will then ensure the swift, fair, fearless, and successful prosecution of all suspects involved in the alleged killing of Trooper Imoro and that our courts will return a verdict that serves as a bold line of deterrence to all who may wish to break the law.”
Mr. Norgbey’s press release follows the announcement by the police that they have arrested six suspects in connection with the soldier’s murder.
In a detailed statement issued on Monday, the Police said that on March 9, after nearly a week of painstaking intelligence-led operations, suspects Safianu Musah alias Dayorgu and Ibrahim Abdul Rakib were apprehended at their hideouts in Ashaiman.
“Two other suspects, Samuel Tetteh alias Wiper and Abubakar Sadick alias Birdman were also arrested at their hideouts on March 10.
“On March 11th and 12th, two more suspects, Yussif Mohammed, and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim were apprehended.
According to the police, further investigation has revealed that suspects Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Sadick attacked the deceased at Taifa Ashaiman around 1:45 a.m. on March 4 in an attempt to rob him of his phone and a backpack.
“However, the deceased resisted and struggled with the suspects. During the struggle, suspect Samuel Tetteh pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased in the arm before grabbing his phone and fleeing, leaving the deceased with the knife stuck in his arm.”
Meanwhile, the Ashaiman Circuit Court has denied bail to six suspects arrested in connection with the March 4 murder of Trooper Imoro Sherrif in Taifa, an Ashaiman suburb.
Supt. Sylvester Asare, the prosecutor, told the court presided over by Simon Gaga that granting bail to the accused would impede investigations.
