Atiku’s Resignation Letter Was Leaked, Not Released — Media Adviser Speaks Out
Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, says the letter announcing Atiku’s departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wasn’t meant to go public—at least not when it did.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News Wednesday night, Ibe claimed the letter was leaked by those working against Atiku’s political future.
“Yes, it was leaked—by people who’ve never wished him well,” he said, suggesting some members within the PDP, with help from political rivals, deliberately made the letter public to stir controversy and shift attention during a time of national grief.
The resignation letter, dated July 14, 2025, was initially addressed to Atiku’s local party leaders in Adamawa State. In it, he cited “irreconcilable differences” and disappointment with the direction the party has taken—saying it no longer reflects its founding principles. The letter was later shared on social media by one of Atiku’s aides.
Ibe didn’t hold back in his criticism of Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, who had commented publicly on the situation. He accused the minister of ignoring his responsibilities and instead involving himself in party drama.
“Instead of focusing on aviation issues like runway safety and airport infrastructure, he’s out here making assumptions and adding fuel to the fire—without facts,” Ibe said.
He also pointed out that now wasn’t the time for political noise, especially so soon after the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“People are still grieving. The country just buried a former leader, and instead of allowing space for reflection, some are busy pushing narratives they can’t even verify,” he added.
As conversations swirl around Atiku’s next political move, his camp insists the focus should remain on more pressing matters—and not on speculation driven by a leaked document.
