On May 22, 2024, Spotify hosted a gathering of industry insiders in Victoria Island, Lagos, granting them an exclusive preview of Ayra Starr’s upcoming album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’.
Attendees were treated to an early listen of the album’s tracks, providing a sneak peek into Ayra Starr’s latest musical endeavor. The event featured Ayra Starr herself, who shared insights into the album’s creation process, describing it as both challenging and rewarding, with input from her dedicated team.

During the interactive session, facilitated by On Air Personality Ope, Ayra Starr delved into the intricacies of each track, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their conception and development.
Among the notable figures present were Mavin founder and CEO Don Jazzy, along with COO Tega Oghenejobo, as well as Ayra Starr’s label mates Crayon and Bayyani. The event also saw the attendance of prominent personalities such as dancer and artist Poco Lee, along with OAPs D0TUN from Cool FM, Sheye Banks from SoundCity, Realskillz and Cera from Max FM, content creator and OAP Jay On Air, and TurnTable Charts co-founder Ayomide Oriowo.
Leading up to the release of her sophomore album, Ayra Starr has already dropped three singles – ‘Rhythm & Blues’, ‘Comma’, and the recent ‘Bad Vibes’ featuring Seyi Vibez. ‘The Year I Turned 21’ promises to feature guest appearances from Asake, Giveon, Coco Jones, Aniita, and Ayra Starr’s younger brother, Milar.
With three nominations for the 2024 BET Awards under her belt, Ayra Starr aims to offer a unique perspective through her sophomore album, crafted from the lens of a 21-year-old while maintaining broad appeal across diverse audiences.
