Basketmouth Explains His Controversial Jab at Wizkid
Popular Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, has revealed the reason behind his recent comment about Wizkid while acknowledging the social media frenzy surrounding Davido’s wedding.
During the wedding of Davido and Chioma on June 25, Basketmouth expressed frustration over the difficulty in promoting his Canadian tour, noting that all attention was on the couple. He mentioned that even Wizkid’s social media antics were overshadowed by the wedding.
This remark didn’t sit well with Wizkid’s fans, who threatened to “cancel” the comedian. Addressing the incident on “Backstage Banter with Isi Ijewere” during his Canadian tour, Basketmouth clarified that his comment about Wizkid was merely a “marketing technique.”
He explained, “I wanted to stir things up a bit. I knew some people wouldn’t like it and would get upset.”
Basketmouth further added, “Wizkid is my friend… it was all part of the strategy. I knew it would be provocative and get a reaction. And it did exactly what I wanted it to do. It worked.”
