Bayern Munich, the German Bundesliga giants, have officially confirmed the appointment of former Burnley coach, Vincent Kompany, as their new manager. Vincent Kompany emerged as the top choice for Bayern Munich after unsuccessful attempts to secure other coaches like Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Austria’s Ralf Rangnick, and former Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann to replace Thomas Tuchel.
To secure Kompany’s services, Bayern paid Burnley £10.2m in compensation, sealing the deal with the former Manchester City defender on a three-year contract. Kompany will be supported by Floribert Ngalula and Bram Geers in his role at Bayern.
Kompany began his managerial journey at Belgian club Anderlecht, where he served as a player-manager from 2019 to 2020 before transitioning to a permanent coaching role in 2020. His impressive performance with Anderlecht led to his appointment at Burnley in 2022.
Despite a successful campaign that saw Burnley gain promotion to the Premier League under Kompany’s guidance, they struggled to maintain their position in the elite league and were relegated back to the Championship at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
While Kompany faced challenges at Burnley, Bayern Munich encountered their own struggles under Thomas Tuchel, finishing third in the German Bundesliga. Consequently, they parted ways with Tuchel and ultimately settled for Kompany after failing to secure other high-profile replacements.
Upon finalizing his deal with Bayern Munich, Kompany expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m really looking forward to the challenge at FC Bayern. It’s a great honor to be able to work for this club — FC Bayern is an institution in international football.”
