Tacha Akide is stirring up conversations again—and this time, it’s over comments she made about Nigerians living in the UK.
A video of the Big Brother Naija alum recently resurfaced, showing her sharing unfiltered thoughts about what life abroad really looks like. And let’s just say—it didn’t sit well with a lot of people.
In the clip, Tacha challenges the common belief that moving to the UK guarantees a better, wealthier life. “People in Nigeria really think everyone in the UK is balling,” she said. “Truth is, some of the most broke people I’ve met live there. It’s expensive as hell.”
She went on to say that many UK residents live under pressure, and struggling to come up with something as “small” as £100 isn’t uncommon. According to her, plenty of people back home in Nigeria are actually doing better financially.
“Sure, move if you want,” she added. “But don’t go thinking it’s all sweet and easy. Everything costs money. You’re going to burn through cash quickly. It’s not as glamorous as it seems.”
Her take, unsurprisingly, didn’t go over quietly.

Nigerians living in the UK—and others on social media—fired back, calling her out for oversimplifying and misrepresenting life abroad.
One user wrote, “Tacha and her careless talk again. Just because people don’t throw money around like in Nigeria doesn’t mean they’re broke. This isn’t influencer life—people work, they earn, they save.”
Another chimed in, “You think people are broke because they don’t tip you? Go check their savings and see if you’ll still talk.”
Others reminded her that financial stability in the UK often comes down to having a job, not flashy spending: “There are jobs here. Get one. Stop walking around and calling people broke just because they don’t give handouts.”
One commenter summed up the mood with a jab: “You’re taking the bus and calling people broke? You’ve not seen the ones driving Benz yet.”
Whether you agree with her or not, one thing’s for sure—Tacha knows how to get people talking.
