Ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, won the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for September, besting Gary O’Neil of Bournemouth and Antonio Conte of Tottenham Hotspur.
In a picture showing every member of the Dutchman’s coaching bench, including McCarthy, the club stated that it was a collective effort as the Dutchman accepted the award.
The Red Devils’ victories over Leicester City and Arsenal earned Ten Hag the September honor.
When the Red Devils go to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday to take on Manchester City, who has won their past seven Premier League home games with at least three goals scored in each contest, Ten Hag will be in charge of his first Manchester Derby.
The trip to the Etihad Stadium by Ten Hag and McCarthy is made more difficult by the fact that Manchester United has dropped 17 league games to the Citizens, the second-most losses in league play in competition history behind only 18 losses to Liverpool and 18 losses to Chelsea.
But the September accolade should give them more confidence as they attempt to stop Manchester City, who are attempting to defeat Manchester United for three straight league games for the first time since a run of four from April 2013 to November 2014.
