Tall women who are looking for work attire may encounter some difficulties. It’s difficult to find tall workwear! Sue Allen Clayton, 58, and the founder of the Serene Solopreneur, a support group for female entrepreneurs, laments the difficulties of shopping for work attire as a tall woman. “I’ve spent most of my life wearing “what fits” rather than “what I like.” I feel like I lost the ability to enjoy clothes.”
Whether you work for someone else or yourself, the following are some of the best work clothes for tall women, along with a few top style tips for taller women.
Blazers and Blouses
Tall people typically have long limbs, including long arms. Shop tall styles and brands that specialize in workwear for tall women to find a stylish blazer that fits your arms. Long and tall Sally has several options for taller women’s clothing, including matching pantsuits and separates.
Do you want to try something new? If you want to try a regular blazer, McCullin has an interesting suggestion: “If you can’t find one with sleeves that fit, cuffing or rolling the blazer to 3/4 sleeves is perfectly acceptable. Most blazers now have a fun lining that can be worn as an accent piece.”
Shoes
Work shoes can be difficult to find if you are tall and wear a larger shoe size. Long and tall Sally sells officewear shoes in sizes 9 to 15, with heel heights ranging from simple pumps to trendy mules. Choose a heel height that complements your pant length and personal preference. If you want to wear heels, there’s no need to be afraid.
Remember, you don’t have to wear heels to look stylish at work if you don’t want the extra height. Smart-looking flats, loafers, and oxfords are also fashionable.
Pants and Trousers
Pants are the most difficult for tall people. When it comes to working, your slacks must look professional. Katie McCullin, a stylist and blogger, recommends that her tall clients invest in the “long” option. “Outside of regular [lengths], the options are occasionally (but not always) a little extra. Make the payment. The quickest way to lose credibility at work is to arrive disheveled and wearing pants that are too short.”
Do you know how long your pants should be? Before deciding on the length, consider whether you intend to wear the pants with heels. McCullin observes that dress pants, even when worn with heels, “Should only skim the surface. They’re too short if they hit at the ankle.” This is especially true of pants with wide or flared legs.
However, skinny pants and cropped trousers are also popular. According to McCullin, these can be a great option because “They’re supposed to be shorter by design. You won’t have to worry about extra length or heel limitations.” Choose your inseam and length wisely! Try a look like this from Alloy, a brand that specializes in clothing for tall women
Skirts
Skirts can be difficult to wear if you’re tall. For tall women, a knee-length skirt can be transformed into a mini skirt. If you work in a more conservative or corporate environment, look for a pencil skirt in a tall size that falls just above the knee. Ann Taylor creates sophisticated workwear, including tall-sized skirts and separates like this leopard print version.
The midi skirt is another great length for tall women. While regular-length maxi skirts are frequently too short or too long, a midi length is both work-appropriate and on-trend.
Custom Clothing
If you’re having difficulty finding great work outfits for a tall frame, consider having them custom-made for you! Working with someone like Dara Lamb, the owner of her own New York City-based custom clothier that creates both bespoke and made-to-measure garments, allows you to select the length, inseam, and style that is appropriate for your height. It also means that the designer can use your exact measurements to ensure that the garment fits your specific proportions. You can create a unique look.
“The most important thing is to find a garment that fits your height perfectly. Off-the-shelf items frequently only come in standard lengths and fit. Made-to-measure clothing is tailored to each individual’s body type “suggests Eugenie Cuynet of Sumissura, a custom clothing company. She goes on to emphasize the significance of trying on custom clothing: “A professional appearance is extremely important for working women and will reveal a lot about you. You want to feel comfortable, elegant, and confident, which only custom-made clothing can provide.”
