Today, Disney unveiled the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King,” a prequel to its 2019 live-action sensation. Set in the breathtaking African Pride Lands, the film promises to delve into the untold stories of Mufasa, voiced by Aaron Pierre, and Scar, portrayed by Kelvin Harrison Jr.
Returning to their iconic roles are Beyoncé as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba, adding to the anticipation. Adding to the excitement, Blue Ivy Carter joins the cast as Kiara, the daughter of the beloved duo.
Kiara made her debut in the 1998 film “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.” Blue Ivy’s role in the prequel marks her significant entry into the world of cinema, sparking enthusiasm among fans worldwide. Be sure to catch a glimpse of the trailer below!
In an interview featured in Entertainment Weekly, director Barry Jenkins shared insights into the casting decisions for the film. Reflecting on the possibility of casting Blue Ivy, Jenkins stated, “A friend of mine, Matthew Cherry, created the short film ‘Hair Love,’ which Blue Ivy narrated. Considering this connection, I pondered if it would be worth reaching out. Would Blue Ivy be interested? Would Beyoncé consider acting alongside her daughter? Could it be too personal?”
Jenkins continued, “Interestingly, as we progressed with the project, the [‘RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR’] unfolded, and I witnessed Blue Ivy’s growth throughout the tour. The Blue Ivy portrayed in this film captures a distinct moment in her very young life, shared with her mother. It felt like a beautiful synergy.”
Blue Ivy notably lent her voice to “Brown Skin Girl” on the soundtrack album “The Lion King: The Gift,” earning her recognition as the youngest recipient of a BET Award and a Grammy for Best Music Video.
During Beyoncé’s “RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR,” fans had the privilege of seeing Blue Ivy join her mother onstage. Initially intended for a single performance, the then 11-year-old became a regular presence on the tour, despite facing criticism on social media.
Blue Ivy has been getting a check since she was born. She is who they’ve been looking for when they say entry level 10 years experience 😍

Blue Ivy is the kind of nepotism that I do support fully.
