In other news, Benue State has witnessed a tragic attack where gunmen, suspected to be bandits, killed at least six people. The violence occurred in two separate incidents within Agatu Local Government Area. One fatality was reported in the Iwari community, while the remaining five were killed in Olegagbane on Friday.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the attackers targeted Iwari first, causing one death and several injuries. On the same day, they struck Olegagbane, resulting in five more fatalities.
Phillip Ebenyakwu, Chairman of Agatu LGA, confirmed the attacks, stating, “Yes, it’s true. Armed invaders are causing havoc, killing, stealing, and looting before fleeing. Their motives are unclear, but their attacks have become relentless and unbearable.” He also noted the difficulties in managing displaced individuals from the affected areas.
