Borussia Dortmund have wrapped up the signing of Nigerian-born England youngster Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, in a deal valued at around £24 million.
The 21-year-old midfielder caught Dortmund’s eye during his loan spell last season, where his strong performances convinced the club to make the switch permanent.
Chukwuemeka originally joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022 for £20 million and featured 32 times for the London side before heading to Germany in January.
For Chelsea, the deal reflects the club’s hectic transfer window, as they continue to juggle finances and squad reshuffling. Player sales have already brought in more than £270m this summer, helping balance out their near £277m splurge on new signings. The need to sell comes after UEFA fined the Blues earlier this year and stressed the importance of staying within financial rules.
Defender Aaron Anselmino is also on his way to Dortmund, signing a season-long loan deal. The 19-year-old has already traveled to Germany to complete the move.
With the transfer deadline looming, Stamford Bridge could still see a number of departures. Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku, Ben Chilwell, and academy talent Tyrique George are all being linked with possible exits.
On the flip side, Chelsea are reportedly eyeing reinforcements, with Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons among the names on their radar.
