The Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, recently held a crucial meeting with representatives from leading telecommunications companies to discuss the ongoing push for an increase in telecom tariffs.
The gathering, which took place earlier today, brought together key players from MTN Nigeria, Airtel, Globacom, and 9Mobile, alongside government agencies such as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Telecom operators have been advocating for a tariff hike, attributing their request to economic challenges like the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating exchange rate of the naira.
However, the NCC has stated that there is still flexibility within the 2013 tariff price floor regulations, suggesting that telecom companies can explore options within the existing framework before any adjustments are made.
