Aisha Hanan Buhari is mourning the loss of someone she says was much more than a father—he was a part of her. The daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari opened up in a heartfelt interview with BBC Hausa, describing the pain of his passing and the quiet strength he brought to her life.
“Losing him feels like losing a part of me,” Hanan said softly. “What I’ll miss most is his sense of humour. He wasn’t just my dad—he was my mirror.”
She remembered him as more than the public figure the world saw. To her, he was a steady hand, a voice of reason, and someone who could light up a room with a well-timed joke. “He always found a way to make us laugh, even in serious moments.”
In the days since his passing, the outpouring of love from Nigerians across all walks of life has not gone unnoticed. From old supporters to former critics, tributes have poured in, carrying messages of prayer, reflection, and peace. Hanan acknowledged this with grace. “To everyone who reached out, who prayed, who forgave—we see you, and we’re grateful. Alhamdulillah. He meant well for everyone.”
She spoke with quiet pride about the values her father instilled in her and her siblings—values that went beyond politics or power. “He taught me to value education, to stay close to my faith, and to find joy in the little things.”
In remembering her father, Hanan painted a picture of a man who lived simply, loved deeply, and believed in the good. Her words were not just a daughter’s tribute, but a reminder of how legacy is often found in the moments shared quietly, away from the spotlight.
