Nigerian music icon Burna Boy has expanded his influence beyond the music industry by launching a football academy across three major cities in Nigeria. The academy, aptly named Burna Boy Football Academy, offers young talent the opportunity to hone their skills and grow both as athletes and individuals.
Operating in Lagos (with centers in Lekki and Surulere), Abuja, and Port Harcourt, the academy runs three days a week, with each session lasting two hours. It caters to players aged 4 to 15, as well as those between 16 and 21, aiming to foster a new generation of football talent.
The academy’s mission, as outlined on its website, is to provide an environment where young players can develop essential football skills while emphasizing education, discipline, and technique. The goal is to help these young athletes excel both on and off the field.
In addition to its focus on sports education, the academy actively involves parents in the development process, ensuring a well-rounded approach to each player’s growth. Burna Boy Football Academy has also secured partnerships with prominent English Premier League clubs like Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Brighton, as well as Championship side Watford. The academy further extends its connections to Scottish clubs Hearts and Hamilton.
Though the academy only recently gained widespread attention, it has been operating quietly for some time, with seven friendly matches already under its belt, resulting in four wins, two losses, and a draw.
