Tensions in Kano State, arising from Muhammadu Sanusi’s reinstatement as the 16th Emir of Kano, seem to have eased. While the Sunusi camp asserts his legitimacy as the Emir, following his reappointment by Governor Abba Yusuf, a Federal High Court in Kano issued an order challenging his reinstatement and calling for his removal from the palace.
Despite the legal dispute, more District Heads and members of the Tijjaniyya Shura Council, an Islamic Sect council, have reaffirmed their allegiance to Sanusi. Notable figures endorsing him include Khalifa Sayyadi Bashir, Khalifa Abdullahi Uwaisu, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula, and Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri.
Reportedly, many residents were observed going about their daily routines on Thursday, with security personnel stationed at the Emir’s Palace and guest house, where Ado Bayero currently resides. The Kofar Kudu palace witnessed bustling activity, with visitors flocking to witness royal ceremonies and cultural performances.
Market stalls lined up outside the palace, offering various goods ranging from food and beverages to textiles, shoes, and prayer mats. Praise singers and drummers added to the festive atmosphere, entertaining guests paying homage to the reinstated Emir.
In an interview, Hajiya Aishatu Danlami praised the state government for prohibiting protests, preventing troublemakers from exploiting the situation. She lauded city residents for maintaining calm amidst attempts to sow discord.
Similarly, Musa Isa called on the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, to accept the outcome gracefully, acknowledging that only one Emir can reign at a time. He urged Bayero to embrace the will of God and move forward, recognizing Sanusi’s appointment as a divine decision.
